Helping tomorrow's business leaders

Young Enterprise is all about helping young people realise their potential in the world of business. It is a national education charity founded in 1963 to forge links between schools and industry.

Speakers from the organisation gave an enlightening presentation to our members, about the work of the organisation and the enthusiasm with which it is met in schools and businesses alike. As Rotarians, we were given the opportunity to get involved, since many of us have the necessary skills to mentor youngsters of all ages in the world of business and enterprise.

The organisation runs many programmes designed to show young people that with the right 'can do' attitude, they are capable of taking control of their lives, giving them skills and experiences that make a real difference to their future, even before they leave full time education.

Winners of the Wales heat of the Young Enterprise Company of the Year for 2103 came from Prestatyn High School. Students created a company called Aluminium and launched a product called Star Jars. Each jar contains the ingredients to create one of two delicious cookie varieties on offer, which sell for £5.99 each.

Since the presentation, two of our younger members have visited nearby schools and colleges to offer business mentoring to groups of youngsters keen to learn how they can take control of their own destinies.
